William L. Clements Library

Research & Education

Please note: The Clements Library renovation project starts July 2013, during which time the Library will relocate staff and collections. For more information, see the Renovation Project Update page.

The Clements Library is a research institution that attracts scholars from around the world. Its collections comprise primary source material in a variety of formats—books, manuscripts, maps, and graphics—all of which illuminate the history of the Americas and provide rich opportunities for research on many topics.

Although it is not necessary to make an appointment to conduct research at the Clements Library, please be advised that reading room seating is limited and cannot be guaranteed. We can better address the needs of readers if we receive advance notification of the anticipated dates and purpose of a visit. We urge you to call or email ahead whenever possible. Contact the Library at (734) 7642347 or fill out this reference form.
