William L. Clements Library
Planned Giving and Donations of Collections
Consider a Planned Gift
Many generous supporters have helped to establish the Clements as one of the premier research and collections libraries in the country. Ruth Waldron, a 1923 University of Michigan graduate, left the Clements Library an important bequest in 1991 that has been used to support significant purchases. Renowned American book dealer Lathrop C. Harper worked closely with William L. Clements to build the Library collection. Later, Harper and his wife Mabel donated funds that are still used to make key acquisitions for the Clements Library. These examples, and many more, show that an estate gift can make an important difference to the Clements Library.
An estate gift to the Clements Library will provide the donor with considerable flexibility so that you can achieve your goals. For more detailed information about the University of Michigans gift planning services, please view their website at http://www.giving.umich.edu/planning.
Donate a Collection
Gifts of appropriate collections are always welcome and help us improve our holdings and make them more useful to scholars. Many of the Librarys greatest donors, beginning with William L. Clements himself, have offered gifts of collections material. The value of these gifts is incalculable and the Library is much richer because of the generosity of others.
Materials that can be donated include: prints, books, maps, correspondence, photographs and other images, scrapbooks, journals and diaries, and personal papers. In-kind donors receive a free one-year membership in the Clements Library Associates including two issues of The Quarto, a discount on Library publications and invitations to special member events.
