San Francisco Earthquake and Fire, as reported in Leslie's Weekly
Leslie's was one of many popular illustrated magazines and weekly newspapers of the time. The most significant event reported in early April of 1906 was the April 7th eruption of Mount Vesuvius in Italy. Only after two full weeks went by did the images of devastated San Francisco dominate the pages of Leslie's.
