The outstanding map collection at the William L. Clements Library contains many items of specific interest to culinary history researchers. A catalogue of these items is underway in the Library's Map Division.

Map cartouche from America, Jodocus Hondius, 1606. Translation: "The method of making and imbibing a drink among the Americans in Brazil: when virgins, after they chew up certain roots, spit them back, then they cook them in pots and offer [it] to men for drinking; And so this beverage is [considered] especially delicious among them."
