McKenny, Samuel P.
Rank:Unknown
Regiment:C.S.A. Army of Northern Virginia
Service:1861-?

Background note:

The four letters that the Virginian Samuel McKenny wrote to his fiancˇe, Eliza Beasly, tell very little of the man. Very soon after the outbreak of the Civil War, McKenny appears to have accepted a commission in the QuartermasterÕs office of the Confederate Army in Viriginia, however it appears from subsequent letters that he later served as an officer in a combatant role. The most interesting parts of the correspondence are a description he provides of the death of William H. Pendleton through the accidental discharge of a rifle while drilling under McKenny, and his comments that he did not believe the Union army would attack near Fredericksburg, and that the fears of civilians in the area were exaggerated.
