A small series of literate letters from a northerner traveling in Georgia and South Carolina during the waning days of Reconstruction. Smith appears to be a native of Connecticut who went south in an effort to make a quick buck as a merchant. Each letter is addressed to Mernie Cone, Smith's sister, back home in Groton.
