The Patten papers include letters between James Patten and his father and brothers detailing his capture and captivity by the Delaware Indians, and his eventual redemption from them with funds raised by the family through subscription. There is also a secondary account of the "Big Bottom Massacre," included in a reproduction of the pamphlet The Choates in America.
