Temporary record

Myers, Mordecai, 1776-1871

Papers, 1812 April 8-1855 November 30
New York, 45 items

Background note:
Letters, documents, and receipts taken from the letterbook of Capt. Mordecai Myers of the 13th U.S.Infantry mostly relating to Myers' service on the Niagara Frontier in the War of 1812. The collection consist primarily of copies of orders for the 13th Infantry and, more generally, for the units in the district, and includes some warrants and receipts for supplies and some incoming, generally personal correspondence written by friends of Myers in the military. The correspondence is fairly routine, although a few letters provide good insight into the minds of a few of the writers, and others are very well written. The post-war material if sparse and of little general interest. A folio 'Inspection Return' for the 13th Infantry rounds out the collection.
