Born in Groton, Conn., on May 7, 1732, William Lawrence was sent to Cambridge University to study for the ministry, receiving his degree in 1743. Lawrence was then installed as the first minister of the First Congregational Church of Lincoln. He and his wife, Susanna, had four children, one of whom, William, became an outspoken Loyalist during the American Revolution.The Lawrence Papers consists primarily of family wills, deeds and other related documents as well as a few of Williams manuscript sermons.
