The University of Michigan Winnie Ruth Judd Papers |
Papers, 1931 January-1933 April
Arizona and Mexico, ca.75 items
The Judd papers include popular accounts (newspapers, crime magazines) of the 1930's Winnie Ruth Judd murder case as well as official court documents and correspondence relating to the post-conviction efforts to save her from execution by court-ruled determination of insanity. Especially interesting are the notes and correspondence of psychiatrist George Stephens concerning his diagnosis of " "dementia praecox," and several letters written by Judd to her husband and to Stephens which reveal her personality and mental state. There are also some colorful letters to Stephens from followers of the case who experess their opinions on Judd, capital punishment, etc.
