Letters primarily from Charles Himrod to his fiancée, later wife, Alice Judson. After the Civil War, Himrod left Waterford (Erie County), Penn., to work in southeastern Missouri as an agent for Pennsylvania steel manufacturers. During his stay in Missouri, he wrote regular, occasionally very long letters to his fiancee in Waterford, Alice, informing her of his activities and describing the people and towns of Missouri. Also included in the collection are other letters addressed to Judson family members, mostly to her father, William.
