The University of Michigan Amos Beebe Eaton Papers |
Papers, 1834 October 8-1836 November 22
Michigan, New York, 26 ALsS
West Point graduate Amos B. Eaton served as lieutenant in the U.S. Army Commissariat, stationed at Fort Gratiot, Michigan, from 1834 to 1836; his later military career saw him rise to the rank of general. These letters, mostly to his wife Elizabeth (Betsy), largely concern family matters. There is brief mention of the various goods he is acquiring for the Army during his travels in the eastern United States, and the occasional mention of military matters, but no non-family topics are covered in any detail.
