Kirk D. and Jessie Eycleshymer Davis Papers

Temporary record

Davis, Kirk D.

and

Davis, Jessie Eycleshymer

Papers, 1886-1889
Michigan, 15 items

Background note:
During the late 1880s, Kirk Davis was an employee of the Michigan Central Railroad, charged with helping to construct new lines in the southern tier of counties. As his work took him away from home for extended periods of time, her wrote to his fiancee, later wife, Jessie Eycleshymer, describing his work, the scenery, and towns. The Davis letters are a scattered remnant of what may have been a larger original collection, and therefore provide little complete information of the lives of Jessie and Kirk Davis, their work or family. The collection does, however, contain a few interesting descriptions of southern Michigan towns during the late 1880s, and provides occasional glimpses, if not insight, into the couple's personal lives.
