Myron Barrett Papers

Temporary record

Barrett, Myron

Papers, 1837-1856
New York (State) and Ohio, 37 items

Background note:
The Barrett papers consist of incoming correspondence between Myron Barrett and various friends and family members during his career as Yale student, teacher in Columbus, Ohio, theological student at Union and Princeton Theological seminaries, ending with his work as a minister in Newton, New Jersey, in 1856. The letters document the usual subjects of health, weather, religion and family news. Some fall into the category of 'schooldays reminiscences' between old classmates; a few discuss farming and the teaching profession. Three letters, from West Point cadet J. Collins, contain some interesting commentary on that institution, describing his experiences at "The Point." A letter dated March 17, 1846, describes a cancer surgery performed without anesthesia.
