Scope and Contents:

Papers relating to the Benjamin West family of Boston, Massachusetts, and Charlestown, N.H.

This collection concerns the activities of Benjamin West (1776-1829), a Boston Businessman engaged in sugar manufacturing. It includes approximately 900 items related to the sugar refinery; two letterbooks, 1803-1827; three expense books, 1797-1827; and one account book, 1811-1823. The papers contain a few letters relating to the Reverend Samuel West (1738-1808), Benjamin's father, and two items of Nathan P. West--a copybook, 1792-1807, and a receipt book, 1798-1813.
