Biographical information:

Peter Warren, born in Ireland, entered the navy in 1717, was commissioned a captain in 1727, and spent the years 1735-1741 on the North American station. He was in the West Indies for the following three years and, as a squadron commander, made a fortune from prize money. In 1745 he cooperated with the American colonial force in taking the French fortress at Louisburg. Warren was made a rear admiral and, in 1747, vice admiral.

Papers of Admiral Sir Peter Warren, British naval officer.

The collection contains primarily material related to the Louisburg expedition in 1745, consisting of correspondence with navy commissioners and treasury officials; monthly pay lists of carpenters, masons, smiths, and laborers; accounts of fuel and building materials purchased for the strengthening of Louisburg; and Warren's accounts with his London agents, Samuel and William Baker. There are approximately 100 bills of lading.
