Peter Warren, born in Ireland, entered the navy in 1717, was commissioned a captain in 1727, and spent the years 1735-1741 on the North American station. In 1745 he cooperated with the American colonial force in taking the French fortress at Louisburg. Warren was made a rear admiral and, in 1747, vice admiral.
