Biographical information:

Charles Grant, descent of an ancient, noble family, followed his father's career as a professional army officer. Forced to flee to England during the French Revolution, he supported himself by writing.

Papers of Charles Grant, vicomte de Vaux, French army officer, writer.

This collection consists of two autobiographical manuscripts: 'State of the Case of Charles Grant, viscount de Vaux, in Great Britain,' 1802, 7 pp., his plea for a military appointment or refugee allowance from the War Office; 'Journal du voyage de Louis-Charles Grant de Vaux lorsqu'il revenoit de l'isle Maurice en France en 1758,' [1802], 22 pp.; and various letters, memoranda, and notes.
