This collection contains instructions from the superintendents of Indian trade to factors, regulations for conducting trade, and letters to Varnum from various government officials involved in this business. Letters written by Varnum to his father, Joseph Varnum (1750-1821) describe his experiences at Sandusky, Michilimackinac, and Chicago.
