Biographical information:

Shadwell was private secretary to Thomas Robinson, 2nd baron Grantham, while Robinson was ambassador to Spain. In 1773 Shadwell began corresponding with John Marsh, the British consul at Malaga; he continued writing until his return to England in the spring of 1778. Shadwell later went to India and died there.

Letters of Thomas G. Shadwell, secretary at the British embassy in Madrid.

These letters to Marsh contain political gossip of the court at Madrid. There are references to the American Revolution in 38 of the letters.
