Autobiographical sketch by Chief Justice John Marshall, written for his friend Justice Joseph Story (1779-1845), 16 pp.
At Story's request, Marshall sent him this sketch in the form of a letter. It is undated, but Story made a notation on it, 'Written in 1827.' This account is the most important autobiographical document written by Marshall.
Purchased, 1932
The account was used by Story in several articles about Marshall and published as An Autobiographical Sketch of John Marshall..., ed. John S. Adams (Ann Arbor, 1937).
