Scope and Contents:

These papers include 12 items written by members of the Dering family during the Revolutionary War. There are 35 letters from Nathaniel Ray Thomas (d. 1791), a Loyalist from Marshfield, Massachusetts, to Thomas Dering at Boston. The majority of these are dated 1755. Fifty letters to Henry Dering (b. ca.1734) were written by Ebenezer Sage (1755-1834), New York Democratic congressman, in the period 1809-1815. Sage describes the debate on the national bank, the war hawks in Congress, defensive preparations, and news of the American victory at New Orleans in 1815.
