Biographical information:

In 1825, Joshua Danforth, a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, was ordained as pastor of the Presbyterian Church in New Castle, Del. Later he moved to positions with the Congregational Church in Lee, Mass., and Alexandria, Virginia, where he remained for 15 years. Danforth became an agent for the American Colonization Society in Boston, 1832-1834, and again in 1860.

Correspondence of Joshua Noble Danforth, Presbyterian minister, agent for the American Colonization Society.

This collection of letters mainly concerns Danforth's activities as agent for the Society, 1832-1833. It contains letters from auxiliary agents and from Ralph Gurley at the Society's Washington headquarters.
