A group of Moravians were invited to settle in Georgia in 1735. Later they moved to Pennsylvania, and with Bishop David Nitzchmann founded a settlement on the Lehigh in 1741. When Count Zinzendorf visited it, he named it Bethlehem. In the early days the Moravians worked principally among the Indians.
